On DLA (Max) - Retiring in December - Options?

Hi Fellow-Travellers,
In large part due to these excellent Guides, I am currently on DLA (Higher Care, Higher Mobility) and also ESA Support Group with Severe Disability Premium. I retire in December 2021 (just over 4 months away!).
I know I will lose ESA, as such, but what about the Severe Disability Allowance?
I assumed that DLA was only for 'working-age' claimants, and so assumed I would lose all that as well.
I thus thought (not the brightest bulb in the pack) that my only option post-retirement age, would be Attendance Allowance, but in the B&W Attendance Allowance guide, it says "If you already receive the care component of Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment, this is not the right guide for you."
So, HELP, Please !!
DOES DLA 'continue' BEYOND State Retirement Age - BOTH parts??
If so, am I likely to get another Assessment when I hit SRA?
What happens to my Severe Disability Allowance (currently part of my ESA claim)?
PLEASE consider creating a GUIDE for (i'd assume) the MANY of us who are transitioning thus each day/month/year.
HUGEST THANKS, as always,

Hi Anfortas

DLA is no longer paid to those of working age, new claims are now only paid to children.

If you are awarded DLA, it can be paid after reaching State Pension age, as long, as you continue to satisfy the entitlement conditions. You will at some stage be asked to apply for PIP.

Unfortunately you cannot be awarded high Mobility as a new or an increased award after you reach state pension age with the exception of the initial transfer from DLA to PIP where the age restriction is suspended.

If you have a Mobility award before your state pension age then you can continue to receive it after as long as you continue to meet the criteria.

Once you reach state pension age your ESA will stop along with any premiums you may have received.

As you are in receipt of DLA you will not be allowed to claim Attendance Allowance, Attendance Allowance is the same as DLA without the mobility component. Attendance Allowance is claimed by claimants over state pension age who are not in receipt of PIP/DLA.

Yes you will still get assessed when you reach State pension age, you should get a light touch review depending on your circumstances.

Once you reach state pension age depending on your circumstances you may be entitled to claim Pension Credit: www.gov.uk/pension-credit with a SDP, depending on your circumstances.

You should seek advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk

Hi , just a thought for you to consider as someone mentioned it to me prior to my reaching state pension age . Have had a carers assessment ? my husband was my carer for many years then sadly He started with major heart problems ,I didn't claim carer money but then I was told that although we don't get the money you get the Premium if you claim for instance Pension Credit when you retire so if you don't claim before state pension age you cannot claim it after . We claim it for each other and it made a big difference to the amount we get. . If you get enhanced rate for care I think its fairly straight forward . Enjoy your retirement ! too many don't get there at all . Joanna.

Hi , I have not heard about carer's assessment before. My husband works full time but helps me alot when he is home and also prepares things to help me while he is at work. Would this assessment be available to him or is it just for full time carers. Any insight would be appreciated.
Best wishes

Hi An ex nurse

Carers Assessment is different from Carers Allowance. When you reach SP age then you can no longer claim CA but as tweedy has stated below you may be able to claim CA premium if you are eligible to claim Pension Credit, you would have an 'underlying entitlement' you can also receive this premium if you claim HB.

Many carers find it easier to continue in their caring role if they can get some support.

Local councils can provide care and support for people who require care, and their carers. The way they make a decision about the support that they can provide is by carrying out assessments.

A carer’s assessment is for carers over 18 years old who are looking after another adult over 18 years old who is disabled, ill or elderly. It is an opportunity to record the impact caring has on your life and what support or services you need. The assessment will look at for example, physical, mental and emotional needs, and whether you are able or willing to carry on caring. www.carersuk.org/help-and-advice/practic...rt/carers-assessment.
