Hi. I've just read that I have to advise DWP about my change of GP. That's fine, but last year I also underwent surgery for cancer. I am in remission, but my speech is not great and I have a tube for taking my nutrition. My PIP is until 2023. Do I have to advise them of this, as going through the PIP process sends me into a massive depression. My condition hasn't improved, so can I just add it to my next form in 2023? If my condition had improved, I could understand why I would need to advise them. If I just put I had cancer surgery, will that he sufficient? The thought of an early re-appraisal fills me with dread. Thanks

Hi Rosty

Anyone in receipt of benefits is supposed to inform the DWP (though plenty of people don't). You can read about it here. www.gov.uk/going-to-hospital-benefits. Telling them of a hospital stay does not automatically bring a review date earlier. You could give details when you inform them of a change of GP.

Morning Rosty. I personally wouldn’t bother with letting them know about any medical stuff unless you want to increase your award. It is very stressful and it sounds like you have more than enough going on. I would send a brief letter just telling them you have changed GP.

Start gathering together all your medical evidence for your review now though. If your claim runs out in 2023, they will probably review you next year at some point.
Also remember if there is any ‘change’ it has to have started 3 months ago and will last for at least 9 months into the future. If you don’t know what will happen re: your conditions it’s probably best to wait. (In my opinion). Take care.
