My PIP renewal experience was created by confused123
I wanted to share my PIP renewal experience here, as well as thank B&W as ever for the incredible guides and support you provide.
I was awarded PIP (enhanced daily living) at the start of 2018, for 2.5 years, on mental health grounds. I was awarded with no need for MR/appeal, which surprised me. My award was due to end in June 2021 - at the end of last year, I received a letter extending my award to March 2022 (one of the Covid extensions).
In April 2021, I received my PIP renewal form in the post. I was given 3 months deadline to return the form, until July 2021. I used the B&W guides and enclosed lots of extra sheets, writing full answers to each question and explaining for a second time how my disability affects me. I copied a lot of material from my original assessment form. I also made a few references to judgements that had been made in the previous assessment.
I didn't have much new evidence, so I resubmitted my letter from my previous therapist that had supported my first application, and then submitted a shorter letter from my current therapist. I sent this off a week before the deadline, next day recorded delivery.
Yesterday I received a letter from the DWP in the post. It was a decision from the DWP to continue my award at enhanced rate. They awarded me the 13 points I received in my first judgment, and then awarded me 4 more points for eating and drinking (which was the only area I had documented a change in my forms, as issues around restriction have become very bad for me this year). In the letter they wrote that there was no need for an assessment as they have the necessary evidence.
So I now remain on enhanced PIP for daily living until August 2024! I am very surprised and pleased. Thanks again B&W, I've used your advice both times with great success. I wanted to share the process as a positive story in a sea of difficulties - every now and then, things can go right!

Hello confused and thank you for your lovely post. Although very reasonably we hear about the problems people have with the process, it is really encouraging and helpful to have first hand accounts of how things should, and quite often do, work.
I will tag this post so that the backroom also get to read your kind words.

Thank you for posting about your experience. It's good to hear it can go well amidst all the stories of it not.
I'm so pleased for you.

Hi confused123,
What brilliant news! As Catherine says, we do rather tend to concentrate in the negative aspect of gaining PIP and other benefits. Sometimes claims go through easily and sometimes they do not. It is always reassuring to know that things can actually go right!
Well done. I am glad that you found B&W helpful. Thank you for your comments.
