PIP review question help please. was created by Dorothygale
Hi. I have M.E. and receieved my PIP review form in July 2021. I am currently receiving enhanced rate for both daily living and mobility.

I haven't had much help with filling it in as I'm so poorly and can't cope with people around me so I've done my best to fill it in using my last application and written lots of additional info on seperate sheets.

I don't have any up to date eveidence though as my M.E is basically self managing as there's little that can be offered anymore. I've been ill 29 years! So I will enclose my gps letter from my last application even though they say not tox as trying to access my gp surgery at the moment is a nightmare and my gp isn't even there...shes off doing 'research'! Do you think that's ok? Also will enclose up to date letter of support from my partner/carer. But that's all I have.

I'm struggling with Question 12 about getting around. The tick box is a bit different from my first form. This form is the the PIP 1043. And any tips for the 'anything else we should know' bit? I've basically put that my condition is unlikely to change now after 29 years and nothing gp can do except meds for symptoms.

Majorly stressing!!! :(

Hi Dorothygale

It quite hard to answer your question as I do not know you and therefore do not know your limitations.

Things to think about for Moving Around

You are not required to walk pain free but any pain that restricts the distance that you can walk should be taken into account.

Specifically for the Moving Around activity, if you are able to walk but you are in severe pain when doing so, then you can argue that your walking is not to a necessary standard and should be disregarded.

The legal test requires you to stand and then move (walk), so if you have problems getting up then you should document these as well.

If you walk slowly then it must take you at least twice the time to cover the distance as a healthy person would, this could be down to the speed of your walking but could also be the result of having to stop.

You must be able to repeat the distance, so if you could walk it once but not then be able to walk it again within a reasonable timescale then you should be classed as unable to repeat the activity.

I'm afraid I can't tell you how to show your walking is more restricted but things you need to think about is what you can't do, for example where can you walk in your house, how far is the toilet from where you normally sit, things that will count against you are any trips that you make outside, so for example, how do you do your shopping?

You must be able to walk the distance you can, reliably and on the majority of days, both these terms are defined in the PIP Claim guide

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

So you need to explain what you can, how you are limited and why.

In the 'anything else we should know' bit, I would write that your condition has not changed since your last assessment, explain the difficulties you have in contacting your Dr, if you are on medication include a copy of your most recent repeat prescription. A support letter from your carer is good, they need to explain what care they give and why.

Don't forget to check our guides for any tips, any extra pages you send in, don't forget to add your name and NI number to each page and number the pages.
