DWP Offering Help To Fill In My PIP Claim Form was created by luvbud
Hi. I made a claim for PIP a couple of months ago but didn't fill in or return the form. I rang the claim line again to make another claim but was told my previous claim was still live. I was told to ring the PIP helpline to find out why this was the case and was told this "because of a medical condition that I have my claim had already been sent to the assessors." I was under the impression that if you didn't return your form in time that the claim would be ended.
I was then offered help from the DWP to fill in my claim form and now a case worker is going to ring me to help me. So my question is 1) has anyone heard of this before and 2) is getting help to from the DWP with filling in my form a good or bad idea?
Thanks

Hi El Dee
You are correct that if you do not return your form then DWP will close your case, but as in your case there are exceptions.
DWP do offer this service, they even do home visits, but due to Covid this stopped but it is starting up again, I was speaking with DWP a few weeks ago on this very subject.
For those who cannot get any help then it can be a good idea, I don't recall hearing thing bad, not yet, for claimants who get help from DWP case workers. I have come across a number of claimants who have had a positive experience.
My advice, if you want help from a DWP case worker be open and honest about how your condition affects you. I would also read our guides before the caseworker phones you and have a list of your conditions, dates when first started, is it ongoing, any medications and any side effects from the medications.
