Husbands health has gotten worse was created by Jo78
My husband was awarded PIP 3 years ago and receives standard care and standard mobility. His health has gotten a lot worse and he now needs more care and help with his mobility. He wants to contact the DWP and advise them of the changes but someone has told him as soon as he notifies the DWP they will stop his payments until he has his assessment. Is this true? As we cannot afford to lose his PIP for what could be months. Thank you

Hello Jo78,
If your husband informs the DWP that his condition has got worse they will either send him a PIP review form, or possibly the same form as he originally completed. They will then carry out an assessment in exactly the same way as before. They will continue paying his current award until they have completed their new assessment.
I have to warn you that every reassessment carries a potential risk. The assessor could decide that his condition no longer warrants the same award, and you might have to fight through the MR and possible Appeal stages to get the correct award. From what you say, I think that is unlikely, but I never take anything for granted with PIP assessments. Obviously if you have evidence that his care needs have increased this puts you in a stronger position.
Do have a look at our guides again and check that his additional care needs will qualify him for extra points.
I hope that has not put you off going for it, but I wanted you to do so fully informed. To encourage you, there is a gentleman I work with who was in a similar position. He was in receipt of standard daily living and no mobility and we believed that his condition had got worse. He went for a reassessment, and went up to enhanced daily living and enhanced mobility.
Do come back to us if you have any other questions,
