Face to face assessment recording was created by andi1970
I have been in reciept of pip for several years and was told that as it had gone to tribunal i needed to make a new claim and a review of the existing claim would not be possible. I have now received an appointment for a face to face assessment . ATOS is carrying this out at kingswood 7/9 /21 house in Pudsey. i rang them to inform them i would be accompanied and that i would like the assessment recorded . the guy i spoke to sought clarification and i was told that was fine they would be able to record it. I received a phone call this morning from dawn checking i was attending and i asked for confirmation that they knew that i would be accompanied and that the assessment was to be recorded. Dawn told me that recording the assessment wasn't allowed and i informed her that it was and i had the case law to prove it. she said she would check and range me back saying that they didn't have the facilities to do this, which they have Atos have had recording equipment since 2019 that i am aware of. I have now told me that i have to source the equipment myself. they have rearranged the appointment for next thursday. please could you advise me of the latest situation with this please. many thanks
Andrea

Hi Andrea Petch
Unfortunately, it is true that you have to take responsibility for recording them. www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/news/4404-afte...-to-face-assessments
Justin Tomlinson MP has confirmed this.
Utterly disgraceful that you should have to do this, especially as they will require you to have two machines to do simultaneous recordings - either cd or audio cassette.
If you have no objection to swapping to a telephone assessment (which they can record), you should request a telephone assessment and say you are being discriminated against as you don't have the money to buy two recording machines. Not saying it will work, but that's what I would try.

Hi Andrea, so naughty they lied to you/did not know what they were talking about in the first place! We used to use two old tape players got off freecycle/freegle [similar internet giveaway sites] If they were really stroppy they could disallow plugging them in if they did not have PAT test electrical safety stickers on. [So I got loads of rechargeable batteries ready...] But that has not happened to me.
What I do recommend is Four C90 cassette-cheap on the internet, as last time the assessment lasted about 100 minutes. You have to give them one set and keep one set for yourself. Also take an extension lead with two sockets or a multi-block, as typically sockets are around the walls and you need the recorders on the desk in the middle of the room. Yes it is a hassle but whatever you do, do NOT accept an unrecorded assessment.
I would go with the discrimination line if I were you at this stage and ask to switch to phone. Do not let them try to tell you you have used your 'one chance to rearrange' as this is all their fault for misinforming you. Remember, it's your Life but only their don't-care job, so don't let them get you down!
Best wishes,
Denby
