PIP evidence was created by Michael
Hi to everyone my question is I had some adaptations done to my home after an occupational therapist did an assessment and decided I needed some help around the home with my daily living this was in 2018 So I had a walk-in shower put in with two grab rails and a shower chair which I still use also I was provided with a raised toilet seat which I still use also a perching stool to help me prepare a meal which I still use also I had a half step and two grab rails put in at my front door which I still use and last but not least I was provided with a long reach grabbing tool because I have trouble bending down. So to my question I have a copy of the assessment the occupational therapist did and copy of all adaptations done from 2018 but how long will this evidence be relevant can I use it in my next review next year I know what the DWP are like for wanting fresh evidence.

Hi Michael,
Whilst not all the home adaptations strictly relate to PIP points, most do, such as grab rails in the bathroom, raised toilet and perching stool certainly do. The fact that you had a full OT assessment and various gadgets etc were recommended is important as it shows that you really do need these things and hence have evidence of both disability and need for aids/adaptations- these all give rise to possible points. You have said you still use these things, so if you need to fill out a new PIP form, you enclose the OT assessment and state that you still you use the items and how they continue to help. If you no longer need the adaptations in the future, then there wouldn't be much point in using the OT evidence. Remember also, that the OT evidence may also be useful as a benchmark if your health becomes worse, and you could be eligible for a higher award of PIP.
When I have completed firms for clients I often include what appears to be an old report, especially if this is an important diagnostic one, such as defining autism, or another chronic health condition. It is always useful background info for chronic conditions that are unlikely to improve. So, it is very likely that the OT report could be relevant for a long time. There are no rules about these things. I always say send in anything that might be relevant. DWP will no doubt make some sort of comment about the relevance, but don't let that put you off!
I hope this helps.
