Hi phrank
Don't forget to factor in that depending on your circumstances you may be eligible to claim Pension Credits, especially if you are in receipt of the daily living component of PIP, you may be eligible to an additional SDP premium in your PCG calculations. If you are single and receive less that £244.40 a week (including state pension and private/works pensions) then you would be eligible to claim PCG.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for adding that information.
I'm not sure what PCG is, though?
Regards,
Phrank.

Hi Gary,
If a claimant is say on IR esa support group, and standard pip ( or just on IR esa support group) then reaches retirement, the esa or pip may be less than their now weekly / monthly state pension.
So what does the claimant do about that as in regards to a boost of income?
regards.

Hi phrank
Sorry, PCG stands for Pension Credit Guarantee which is a means tested benefit.

Hi mrfibrospondodysthmatic
Looking from a single disable person in receipt of the daily living component of PIP.
When someone reaches state pension age their ESA will stop and they will receive new state pension (depending on NI contributions) £179.60 pw.
we always check to see if someone is eligible to claim PCG, PCG payment is £177.10 per week, as £177.10 is less than £179.60 then the claimant would not be entitled to claim PCG ... but the claimant is in receipt of PIP daily living no one is claiming carers allowance against their claim, therefore they would be entitled to a SDP premium of £67.30 with their PCG claim making a total of £244.40 therefore they would be entitled to PCG of £64.80 pw.
PCG is a qualifying benefit therefore they would receive full HB if they rented and a free TV licence if they are over 75.
There is a bit more to it but that is the basis when looking at maximising income for claimants of state pension age.
