I live with my mother who is 76 and I think to old to provide care is there any people who are not counted when claiming SDP I'm aware you need to live alone but that's not practical for me

Hi Gail,
Have a look here
www.gov.uk/disability-premiums/eligibility
Presumably you are wishing to claim SDP for yourself - you would need a qualifying benefit such as PIP daily living. You would also need to be claiming a legacy benefit, this is a means tested benefit such as ESA or income support.
If you mother has PIP daily living or AA or similar benefit or is registered blind then she is not counted as someone you live with.
Once you have the correct qualifying benefits of PIP/ means tested benefits To get SDP you need to show that you do not live with another adult ( unless exempt) and no one claims Carer’s Allowance for looking after you.
Unfortunately SDP is not available for those on UC.
If you are eligible then SDP shoukd be added automatically by DWP. If this hasn't happened please contact DWP immediately as backdated payments may be possible.
I hope this helps.

Hi Gail,
Unfortunately State Pension doesn't come within the rules and on that basis your mother wouldn't be an exempt person and therefore SDP wouldn't be available to you.
If your mum has disabilities and needs care then she might be able to claim attendance allowance?
