Just thought I'd give you some information about my experience with current times, for the reference of others. I know things vary massively from person to person so it can't be used as reliable data, but I am providing it just in case!
I applied for PIP in June 2020, was assessed in September 2020, and was awarded PIP in October 2020, with an award period ending in September 2023. A few days ago (02/02/23) I received my renewal form, dated 23/01/23 - 8 months before the end of my award period, so closer than the 10-12 months before I was anticipating, and arriving nearly 2 weeks into my 4 week timeframe for filling in the form! I sent back my forms the next day (having prepared everything in advance) and received the text that my form had been received and would be considered today (06/02/23). When I first applied and sent my forms back it took nearly 2 weeks to get the text confirmation that everything had arrived with them, so I was pleased with that speedy response!
I know it varies for everyone, but I figure the more data you have the better it is! I'll let you know when I hear about a reassessment if I have to have one (probably!) and any other contact I get from them. Thanks for your guides.

Hi Charlie
Thank you for your post,
We do get a number of queries asking how long things take, so it is good to hear from members about their journey, although we do know that it does depend on where you live in the regions.

Update - got a text on the 3rd May reading "We still have your PIP form and will be progressing your review as soon as we can. You may still need an assessment with a health professional. Your PIP will continue to be paid until we review your claim. You only need to contact us if your circumstances change."

Update: my doctors received a form from Capita on 31/01/23. Been a year now since I sent my form back, I'm hoping things are progressing a little now.

Update: my Long Covid team *also* received the form. They completed the form several days ago, doctor completed it today (19/02/24). Thought this time frame might continue to be helpful given the wide variance in timeframes people are currently experiencing.
When I initially applied, Capita only sent the form to my GP (not to any other specialists), so I'm glad they sent it to my Long Covid team this time too.
