Claiming DLA for my child was created by Roch82
Hi.
I have had concerns about my child been autistic, with PDA since been little, she's now nearly 9. I eventually took her to he doctor and they have referred her to Ryegate neurodisablility center to be assessed, but the wait could be 2 yrs or more for an appointment. She masks in school and presents massivelyat home, with alot of anxiety about school life. I'm having a trouble with school getting them on the same page as me. I have a MAST worker now to help me.
Can you advise me please with what I could use as evidence to support my claim for DLA.
Thanks in advance

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

There is no specific evidence that I can refer you to but there are three basic categories to consider.
Doctor's letters. Speak to her GP to see what input they might make to a claim.
Letters from people who know your child, I know you are not getting what you want from the school but it would still be worth asking if they can provide any support. Friends and family, can they comment on her care needs?
Lastly, keep diaries in regard to the problems that she is having, at least seven days but longer if there is any variation in her condition.

Hi , Have you raised an EHCp ? You can do it yourself if school won’t - I did and it forced everyone to look into my child’s condition / he now has a diagnosis of Dyspraxia and is in a SEN school - still waiting for adhd/ASD assessments which can take years , but that doesn’t really matter as finally in a special school and it’s life changing . I also applied for DLA when given the diagnosis and granted for 2 years with a blue badge too .
IPSEA helps with everything you need to know to quote the legal back to your council for getting the EHCp and the relevant assessments and with that you are more likely to get DLA but apply and state you are in the system with all the evidence / letters as suggested previously. EHCp is all about perseverance, legality and order of paperwork it’s hard but it get’s s results if you are tenacious and have IPSEA on your browser at all times ! Good Luck
