Hi!

Firstly, a huge thanks to all involved in this wonderful website!

I studied all your guides meticulously and submitted my PIP application form on May 10th. By way of additional information I included a further 15 (!) A4 pages detailing how my health issues affect me. My application included a letter from my sister who is my primary carer.

I have fibromyalgia, anxiety, depression and severe hearing loss. I explained a phone assessment would be impossible due to my hearing loss and that attending a face to face interview would cause me overwhelming distress. I told them my ESA assessment nine years ago (which was just for anxiety, depression and hearing loss, the fibro started a year ago) was a home visit and requested a home visit again. My hope was actually that they would have all the information needed from my ton of additional information and my sister's letter and I would get a paper assessment. I had told my GP about my PIP application and he said he was happy to provide any information they required.

Yesterday, out of the blue, my sister received a phone call. She isn't sure whether it was from the DWP or Atos/Capita as the caller just said it was regarding my PIP application. They told her a decision would be made by way of a paper assessment and that I would receive a letter soon. They wanted to clarify a few points with her (eg. can I use cutlery, can I raise my arms above my head, can I dress myself and how poor my hearing was)

Despite scouring your forum I cannot find the answers I am looking for.

- Do you think this was the DWP or Atos/Capita?
- Do you think a paper assessment has already taken place and they just wanted to clarify a few points?
- Do you have any idea of how long it might be before a decision is made and I am notified?
- Do you think the fact they acknowledged I cannot leave the house means I will score highly for the moving around section?
- Overall do you think this bodes well for a successful outcome?

Thank you again for your fantastic guides, understanding what the DWP mean by "reliably" made a huge difference in how I answered the questions.

Thanks and kindest regards.

Hi Abi

If they have decided it is a paper-based assessment, it is more likely to be the DWP who called.
If they want to clarify a few points, it will probably be the assessor who has done this while completing their report.
I can't tell you how long it will be until you get the result, but I suspect it will be within the next 6 weeks. (It could be sooner).
I can't comment on whether you will score highly for mobility as I'm not an assessor and don't know your case.
I can't comment on whether it bodes well for a successful outcome - because no one ever knows until the decision letter arrives.
