Using PIP Assessment and award as evidence for ESA Capability Assessment was created by davbam
Hi all,
My wife has received one of the dreaded ESA50 to complete. She also has the enhanced rate of PIP and we have a copy of the assessment (face to face) showing the points she received for mobilising, washing dressing etc. Is it worth adding a copy of this to the completed ESA50 form, as surely that proves her medical issues as accepted for her PIP award?
We will also attach all the medical evidence as we have done before, but it just seems perverse that she had a face to face assessment for PIP in 2017 and received the enhanced rate until at least 2027 and yet here we are with another review for ESA. She has been permanently disabled since 1998 and her condition will never get better, in face it will get worse with age.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi davbam
Yes, you can include the PIP assessment.
Just remember that PIP and ESA are different benefits, and although there is an overlap in some areas - they look at some areas quite differently, and one is about a claimant's ability to work, and the other is about their need for additional help for their disabilities.
Although there are many claimants who get both, there are also people who get one and have been turned down for the other. They have talked about combining an assessment, but it hasn't happened yet. I know it seems particularly hard when someone's condition is only going to worsen.
Have a look at the UC/ESA and PIP overlap - so that you don't miss anything. benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/pip
