Thanks Gordon. I’ve checked out that local advice list, only CAB is appropriate in my area and they’ve replied but it’s just links to government websites. What I’m unsure of is whether to book an appointment with the job centre to see how they can help me move back towards work, or is that just inviting trouble? My last experience there was dreadful and profoundly damaging to my health. However, I’ll go back to CAB and ask directly about UC. I just don’t know anyone who’s moved from one system to another.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Emma
The first thing I would ask, do you receive any disability premiums with your ESA, if you do not, then you have nothing to loose.
If you do receive SDP then think twice before you make any decision, once you apply for UC there is no going back to legacy benefits.

Thanks, that’s helpful, yes I do, although to be honest I think they’ll fail me on the next PIP review which I’m due paperwork for any day, which is why I was considering getting ahead of things by switching to UC. But maybe I should just stay with ESA and hope they don’t chuck me out of the permitted earnings category if/when I fail to keep PIP.

Hi
Is it the case that if I move from tax credits and ESA Conts to UC, then
after a year of transitional protection I can't go back onto ESA conts?
I thought ESA was an on-going award.
'
Thanks

Hi synapse321
You are correct CB ESA is an ongoing award until you are next assessed, but there are conditions.
You do need to speak to your local Welfare Rights Organisation, who will be able to guide you; advicelocal.uk
see; www.gov.uk/government/publications/emplo...itted-work-factsheet

Hi Gary,
Out of interest, are you implying that if someone is doing permitted work on ESA they might lose transitional protection when they go on Universal Credit because they are put in the LCWRA group instead of LCW group?
