Help PIP has made me a paranoid wreck.

Hi there, I've been classed as disabled and on disability benefits for over 10 years now massively affecting my mental health turning me into a paranoid wreck. I don't trust anyone and I tell people I work from home.

The thing is; the condition I have CMT is being made worse by me being so inactive. But I'm terrified of doing anything in case a family member or someone else jumps to the usual conclusions because I'm so private I tell no one nothing about my condition and how it affects me.

So me question really is...could I lose PIP and other benefits if I go to the gym when I can to do the exercises my body allows to help my mental health and to stop me losing all my strength.

I can see I've got worse from not moving enough.

I won't be able to hit the gym like most can but there are things I could be doing I'm just so paranoid I'd lose the benefits as I'm pretty sure thanks to the usual junk media and certain programs that most people would say "if you can go to the gym, you can work!"

These benefits have wrecked relationships for me because I trust very few in my family now -- and friends.

I'm pretty sure many can relate to this.

I just want to stop myself getting worse.

Thanks.

Hi laneif2

There is nothing written anywhere that says a claimant on disability benefits can't go to the gym. Physical activity is a suggested treatment for many physical and mental health conditions. Sometimes physical activity is used to improve a condition and sometimes just to stop it from getting worse. It doesn't matter what other people might think - it is none of their business.

People lose their benefits or have awards reduced if they no longer fit the criteria for which they were given them. So if someone's condition improves and they do things they couldn't do before - it's up to them to notify the DWP and report a change of circumstances. Individuals have to make their own decisions on this.
