IAS telephone assessment issues was created by slk69
My Pip was up for review in November 2022, and all paperwork completed and returned on time. Apparently DWP only sent the papers and request for a telephone assessment through to IAS in May 2023. Letter received dated 25 June with a telephone appointment for 11am on 7 July (today.) also received a reminder letter and a text message. So when they still hadn’t called by 11.40, I called them on my partners phone and they said there was no note on the system to explain why I hadn’t received the call. I was given the option of rearranging the appointment or waiting for a bit longer. I didn’t want to rearrange as this would delay it further so I opted to keep waiting and asked them to note their system. Still no call by 12.15 so I called back and was told again there was nothing on the system explaining why I didn’t receive the call. I was told it must have been cancelled! I have been given another appointment now for 24 July. I asked if they could record it and was told that only a small number of assessors are licensed to make recordings so it would have to be a different and much later appointment. I declined and said I would keep 24 July appointment and record it myself. I also asked if I could make a formal complaint about the appointment being apparently cancelled without anyone notifying me. The advisor took down all the details and said my complaint would be put to the internal complaints team and I should receive a letter and a text confirming receipt of the complaint in the next few days. I’m so upset because of the physical and emotional impact of expecting a call that never came, and the further delay to an already unacceptably long delay in reviewing my PIP. My blue badge expired in March and I got a temporary blue badge from my local authority which expires in 7 weeks, and my motability car is due to be changed in the next few weeks. I cannot sort either of these things out without my PIP award letter. Has anyone else had experience of this happening? Is there anything further I can do about this? Thank you.

Hi slk69
I'm sorry you find yourself in this position. It probably doesn't help, but you're not the only one. Another member just had their appointment cancelled for the third time, and like you, she was sitting waiting for the call. I know you've been waiting a long time for your review, and it's maddening and dreadfully stressful. We have some people that have been waiting nearly two years.
I really hope that your assessment takes place on the 24th. There's nothing more you can do at this stage. If you need to extend your Blue Badge again - contact your local authority and talk to the Motability people about what will happen if your waiting for a decision letter.

put it on speaker, get someone to take notes , ask the assessor if she/he is familar or have experience of your condition, watch out for the pets/driving/direct debit/banana and how do you cut a steak questions...i know . couldnt make it up.
I rang the next day for a copy of the Medical Report. It arrived from Belfast the next day.
I got a text saying it was complete.
I rang number, you can go through the options when they tell your next payment day..if at all. Mine was reduced, meaning I have lost HR Moving Around.
I am nearly 3 weeks now waiting for the decision letter.
I have rung and requested another letter.
I am unable to lodge a MR until I have the decision letter.
It is so frustrating !!!
And you are not alone . I had 3 extensions, only 3 months at a time, I had to pay for my blue badge 3 times in 2 years, and my AR1 form was submitted in June 2022 , I had telephone assessment exactly ONE year later.
This is abuse. No other word for in my humble opinion.
No other department /company would get away with the "service" they provide.
Good Luck. Steel up and ask your mobility car for an extension on the lease. we did . we got another 2 years.
