My partner became too ill to work and went onto SSP, when that ran out she successfully went onto contribution based ESA 18 months ago. Her condition has been diagnosed as serious and permanent and she has now been moved into the support group.
Her job was a zero hours contract and recently her employer has been in contact to see about her intentions (to return to work). Although that was always her intention over recent months she's accepted her condition won't improve enough to allow this. She doesn't receive anything from them since going onto ESA, but I guess she's still technically on their books?
When she went onto ESA it was because she had worked and provided the doctors fit notes and told them who she worked for etc. We are just confused whether there needs to be a connection to an employer going forward. If we tell her employer there is no likelihood of her being able to return to work and they effectively terminate her employment - would that mean her ESA stops?
Tried looking on govt websites etc and there is no clear answer.
