Benifits and holidays was created by mcguire
Hi there,
I am on esa Contributions based (13) years and in a support group too. I have MS and naturally it's deteriated over the years now. I was wanting to go on holiday and visit family in US in Florida in Nov in Nov this year. My immediate family will be there with me too. I depend on them daily.
Can I ask if that's OK to do? I'm aware of the 28 days rule but I don't want this to trigger a reassessment
That would terrify me.
What is expected of me? What do i have to fo?
Many thanks
K

No, it should not trigger a reassessment but I would suggest you consider how you will complete each part of the journey and the things you might do while away.
So, if you have problems with walking how will you manage to get around in the airport, if you have back problems then how will you cope with being seated for so long, if you have social anxiety then how will you cope with being in a new and unknown place?
I'm sure you get the idea, you don't have to answer now and may never have to but if asked by the DWP or an assessor you may need to be able to explain how you went away and still stay consistent with your limitations.

I'm going in a wheel chair. It's predominantly to see my kids have fun. I'm aware this will be hard though. Do I have to tell them though. Its less than 4 weeks,?

I can't tell you that you do not need to tell them, however, everybody who has and reported back to the forum has said that the DWP were really not that interested.
You will only pique their interest if you are going to be away for the full four weeks where an unexpected delay could take you over the limit.
