I have claimed contributions based ESA for over 20 years. I know there is no limit on the amount of savings I can have. I also claim PIP. My husband retired two years ago and received a lump sum. I put some of the money in a savings account in my name. I had forgotten that I had to inform the DWP of any income I have even though the benefits are not means tested. Does the same apply to savings? I have locked them in for a year and can't close the account until that term is up.

Hi ELEANOR
As you are in receipt of CB ESA then your husband's pension does not affect your benefits.
What will affect your CB ESA would be if you received a pension such as a company or private pension.
As you stated at the begining of your post, there is no limit on the amount of savings you can have.

I don't think this is entirely accurate. There's a threshold as to when a pension begins to affect CB based ESA.
I remember reading a court case on Rightsnet where someone got caught out by this.
Last year the limit was £85/week before it began to affect CB or New Style ESA.

Hi PatGPT
You are correct, but as it's Eleanor's husband who has retired, it does not affect Eleanor's CB ESA.
