Occupation + PIP was created by Heidi
Hi there, I am new to the group and am just going through pip due to multiple medical conditions. My question is. During the telephone assessment do I have to disclose what my occupation is. I am concerned that this may have a detrimental affect on my assessment as I work for the NHS (I have had adjustments to my role at work). Thank you for your help.

Hi Heidi,
Welcome!
PIP is payable whether you work or not.
If the kind of work that you do is incompatible with PIP, it is highly unlikely you will get PIP even if theoretically you can score enough points. An obvious example would be to do labouring work with lifting and you say you can't walk far, and have arthritic hands and legs etc.
I think you have to be honest with assessor. If you don't mention work, it is bound to come up later, and then it could look as if you are deliberately concealing things.
No doubt DWP may argue 'can work so can do descriptor activities' - however you mention reasonable adjustments to allow you to work. It might therefore be useful to get a letter from your employer to show what adjustments have been made and how these help support you. It may be that you still struggle and this important to stress this to DWP.
That said, the adjustments may also show that you have a need for help, or at the very least a need for an aid, so this could go in your favour.
Without knowing your health history it is difficult to comment further.
Have a look at the PIP guides and consider each descriptor carefully. Can you do the activity safely, repeatedly across the whole day, to an acceptable standard, which would include not having significant levels of pain, as well as completing the activity within no more than twice that of a person without disability. Do you need help or a gadget, if so why?
If you need help or a gadget (aid/appliance) then chances are you should score points for that activity.
I hope this helps.
Good luck.
