URGENT-PLEASE!!! AUTISM/ADHD/EPILEPSY PIP Application for my 16 year old son... was created by Lilja
Hey, all...
I am totally new to all of this and making a claim for PIP for Autism/ADHD/ Epilepsy on behalf of my 16 year old son.
I have only just found this site. I have read and downloaded the Guides for Autism and ADHD- and they are great- thanks!
I am awaiting reports from my sons school, his SEN lead, his Specialist nurse, and hopefully from whoever else can write supporting statements. ( I do not know the identities of who helps him in the 'calm room', and other support, so have asked his SEN teacher to forward my request).
Due to my son not being able to get his ADHD meds, he has not seen his Paediatrician recently (as he doesn't need regular weighing etc).
He recently had an EEG for his Epilepsy and is due to next see his Epilepsy Consultant in January.
His school specialist nurse feels he needs more therapy than she can provide and so has referred him to an external provider, and he has his first appointment on Wednesday am.
His Application is due on 7 December. I don't know what else I can request and from whom, to refer to in the Application Form? If I don't receive
the school reports, what do I say in the form?
I don't understand the "points" award system?? How are they awarded??? I am very anxious as I am making this claim for my son, so ANY help would be SO appreciated!!!!
Many thanks, in advance!
Kind regards,
Lilja

Hi Lilja
If you haven't already sent the form, you can ring and ask them to give you an extension. They will give you another two weeks.
You say that you have looked at the Guides for Autism and ADHD - I hope that you have also looked at the Guide to PIP Claims and Reviews. Please make sure you have glanced at it - as it will also help you to answer all the questions. Inside you will see that every question has specific points allocated to it. An assessor will agree or disagree with whatever box you have ticked on the form.
It sounds as if you've worked really hard to get lots of evidence. If you are expecting a report and you haven't got it - include a note on the form - in the box where you can put additional information or on a separate page saying that you are expecting additional information and you will send a copy in in as soon as you receive it. Are you his appointee? If you aren't and you should be - you need to arrange that as soon as possible. Be aware the assessor may try and interview your son. Depending on the severity of his autism and ADHD - if you need to speak on his behalf - then please make sure you're his appointee - otherwise, you will have to fight to speak for him. Assessors are notoriously bad at treating people with Autism or ADHD - as several of our members can confirm.
