Hi

We're sending back the completed UC50. The envelope provided has a freepost address so will the Post Office allow us to send it by next day special delivery?.

With thanks in advance

Kelly

Hi Kelly,

You can certainly do this - I've done it myself. Just cover the envelope with a sheet of A4 to cover the freepost address, and then send it to the same place with your special delivery label attached.

Chris.

Definitely yes! I do it for clients all the time who want the extra reassurance

Can I offer a sidenote from 2020 which may or may not apply still here in 2025? When these were written, the two posters reported that their Post Office could deduct the freepost value from the special delivery/signed-for rate paid.

I asked unsuccessfully at my local PO/convenience shop last year but they're basically unqualified; however, an experienced/senior and willing PO worker might confirm or look up in case anyone wants to/has the bandwidth to try asking (and preferably report back somewhere on board for future reference!).

I can confirm that they certainly used to just charge the 'signed for' bit if sending something by freepost. I can't see why they wouldn't still do this. However, they don't do this for Special Delivery (in my experience) as this is an expedited service which you are paying for, which would not otherwise be covered by the freepost service.

Simplest option is just to take the item to the PO and ask (although it does of course help if the staff know what they are on about!)
