Hello, Sorry to bother people I was wondering if anyone knows if they analyse what you’ve spent your money on. It was recently my mum’s birthday and my dad sent me the money to buy her something from him so she wouldn’t see it on her card. It was jewellery so more expensive than a normal item and the money was immediately spent but now I am sick with worry that this will be counted against me. I know this sounds stupid but I am just wondering if anyone has had experience of them looking and if they punish you for things like this.
Do not worry as family members are allowed to give you money, even thousands , as long as your savings in total are below £6000, the DWP don't need to be informed.
This is a topical issue as the DWP are trialling Ecospend in 2 northern cities and that allows read only access to bank statments via the bank's smart phone app. So in future with the new Labour government's plans the DWP may be able to check unusual credits. But that is hypothetical and a long way off at present.
