Debt recovery took £154 I didn't owe. was created by Onyx123
This saga on my wife's earnings has been going for a few because HMRC reported one month that my wife earned double than what she actually earned.
Now the DWP owe me £154 for taking money I didn't owe. I am being passed between debt recovery and UC with both claimer the other one has to authorise the payment to me.
You can't make up the incompetence of the DWP where nobody actually knows who is responsible. Debt recovery told me UC have to contact them and authorise the payment, UC tells me I need to contact debt recovery and they will pay the money to me.
I have been trying to get the £154 back since last December.
Any suggestions who I could contact to get this resolved.

Hi Onyx123
It is agreed amongst Benefits advisers that DWP Debt Management " are a law unto themselves ". I was only reading this yesterday .............

I had a similar incident to Citizens Advice Hillingdon which I resolved my making a complaint to the area manager for the local DWP.
Let me know how you get on.

Hi
Have you tried going through the formal complaints procedure at the DWP which involves putting a formal complaint in writing? That way it will be investigated properly.

Hi Mumoftwo
I would like to quote John McEnroe's famous saying . But I will leave it up to other Forum members to add their comments.

David I persue it for a while longer and once my UC review is completed I will contact my MP because if you owe the DWP money they are quick to take the money. Hopefully the MP can get it resolved. I find it disgusting. Thank you for the link.
