Four points needed on one single category? was created by Mark33
Hi everyone. I have just joined the forum. Thank you for accepting me. Could someone please have a look at this Instagram reel and let me know what this person means? It's something about having to score four points in a SINGLE category to get the required number of points. And, if possible, could someone please give me an example of how to get the required number of points? I have ankylosing spondylitis, severe OCD and depression and I can't concentrate and understand things like I used to be able to. I'm sorry about this. Thanks in advance. Love from Mark.

Hi Mark33
Welcome to the forum. I
have edited your post and deleted the video from instagram because it was taking up far too much space and I would urge you not to try and upload videos from other sites.
In the top menu bar is a tab with PIP/UC changes which will be kept up-to-date with any information you need about the proposed changes.
This is what our site says about the four points needed for a single category:
"From November 2026, claimants will need to score at least 4 points from a single daily living activity to qualify for the daily living component of PIP, as well as scoring a total of at least 8 points. So, if you are assessed as meeting 4 descriptors scoring two points each, that will be 8 points, but it will not qualify for an award of the standard rate of the daily living component of PIP. But if you select one descriptor scoring 4 points and two descriptors scoring 2 points each, that will be 8 points and you will qualify for an award. In the same way, six two-point descriptors will currently qualify for the enhanced rate of PIP daily living, but under the new scoring system it will not qualify for any award of the daily living component The changes will apply both to new claimants and to existing claimants when their award is reviewed from November 2026 onwards. The mobility component will not be affected."
If you want to know if you might be affected by this change, look at your last award letter and see what you scored on any of the questions for the Daily Living Component. If you have four points for any of the questions, you won't need to think about it. This still remains a proposal and we will have to wait to see if it is going to be implemented. I
f you want to know the scoring for specific questions have a look at our Guide to PIP claims and Reviews. It gives you the scoring for all the current questions. benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/pip I have included Q3. All questions follow a similar pattern in terms of the scoring.
Q3 Preparing Food
1a. Can prepare and cook a simple meal unaided. 0 points.
1b. Needs to use an aid or appliance to be able to either prepare or cook a simple meal. 2 points.
1c. Cannot cook a simple meal using a conventional cooker but is able to do so using a microwave. 2 points.
1d. Needs prompting to be able to either prepare or cook a simple meal. 2 points.
1e. Needs supervision or assistance to either prepare or cook a simple meal. 4 points.
1f. Cannot prepare and cook food. 8 points.
