DLA claim was created by Gracie89
Hi,
I'm wondering can you redact parts of medical reports you are sending with your child's DLA claim form? It would be on my sons ADHD assessment report, it is personal family information that does not affect diagnosis. So it would not refact the diagnosis part or saying that ADHD is significantly affecting his life, just would take out some sensitive information. Can I do this? And would it be questioned? Or a bad idea?
Thanks

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Gracie89
You can redact whatever you like. Will they be curious? Probably, but you can always put in your evidence why you have chosen not to include specific sections. Is it a bad idea? You have to do what feels right for you and your son.

Thank you, so if I decided to do it would i just do it and not say anything unless they question it or would i need to say something in the form like I have done this because... it is personal information that does not affect the information re his diagnosis that is the purpose of giving you this report?
Also if I redact it are they more likely to contact the GP to get information do you think or do they do that always anyway? And if they are more likely to, would they ask the GP for an unredacted copy of that report?
Many thanks

Hi Gracie89
Yes, if you choose to redact, I would explain why.
If you submit a redacted report, it is unlikely they will try to get hold of the unredacted report, and they can't do that unless you have given permission for your son's records to be accessed. However, it is not always a fail-safe system, and I have known people's records being accessed even though they have refused permission.
