Received UC migration notice and a few days later text re PIP review was created by samkajo
Hi Everyone
Not sure if anybody can help but Im in a bit of a state. Received my UC migration notice which I thought I would be ok sorting with this sites guides and began trying to work through best time to apply and trying to sort my finances taking into consideration that I would still get my PIP payment. Then I received a text from DWP saying my PIP review was starting. I dont know how this is going to impact my UC claim but will likely lose out as my next PIP payment which I was relying on to save some of for the 3/5week gap with UC process falls in the likely time period of review which I expect to be either stopped or significantly reduced.
Am waiting for the form to land but essentially that has thrown everything into turmoil and I am expecting either a loss of award or significant reduction due to the fact that the mental health services have essentially washed their hands of me since my last review and I have no support from my GP. And to top it off my physical health has deteriorated recently and I have had to battle with the GP to get any help.
Each time I reach out for help with either physical or MH issues I am beaten down, dismissed, my last attempt at reaching out for mental health support I was told I wasn't trying hard enough by the person assessing me over the phone and I am seriously concerned that my lack of evidence will be detrimental to claims. I receive zero support and have no friends with 2 non- local family members one of whom is elderly and relations with both are strained with daily life being a miserable existence
Apologies for the long message.....Im just dont know who to turn 2 as currently I struggle with mobility and have significant issues relating and talking to others.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated as I am spiralling into a very dark place.
Thank you

Hi samkajo
I'm sorry to hear that you are in such a bad place. I know it's really difficult, but if you need help from a service like the Samaritans, please get in touch with them. You can call them on 116 123 or email them at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
1. Ring the DWP and ask for an extension to your PIP. Tell them you are trying to do your migration at the same time. A friend of mine did this recently, and she was given a four-week extension (rather than the normal two weeks). It will give you a tiny bit of breathing room.
2. Your PIP will continue to be paid until the review process is complete. The DWP is running a backlog, so by the time you return your form, they organise an assessment, the assessment takes place, and a decision is made, you could easily be looking at 15 weeks or more before you find the result.
3. Please don't assume that you are going to lose your PIP. It's scary and it's challenging, but you can do this. Many people are in the same position as you. There is a shortage of Mental Health Services across the country so many people have been discharged and that's what you put on your form. Being discharged is no reflection on your state of health and you tell them about the problems you continue to have. I'm sorry that you have no support from your GP, but again you say that you have tried to get help. At least you have had contact with your GP. You don't have to go into details on your review form that your GP is less than supportive.
4. Try not to judge your previous experience by the one to come. I know this is a big ask. There are some truly dreadful assessors, but there are some kind ones. No one has the right to say you are not trying hard enough. They don't know you, so please don't let that haunt you. Remember you are the expert in what you experience. Look at the Guide to PIP claims and reviews and work carefully through the questions, changing some of the suggested answers to suit your current circumstances. Don't get hung up on the fact that you don't have recent contact with MH services - use the argument that services are not currently available.
5. Managing by yourself. It can be overwhelming to do all the benefit stuff when you have no one to support you. One of our members was recently in a similar position and he said that he realised that if he was going to get an award he would have to rely on the guides here and give it a do. He chipped away at it and following the guidance did it and he got an improved award. His advice to everyone was at least try it - even when you have no one else. Not everyone will have his success, but his advice was sound. Chip away at it and read the guides. If you find it all too much - please send back the form, even if you have to write all over it - that nothing has improved and you are too ill to give them more details - that is better than doing nothing at all..
Come back and ask if you have any other questions.
