Income related esa plus sdp was created by Livonia
Hello sorry for essay

I don’t have copies of awards from when I first finished employment due to being unable to work

Two years of a blurr tbh due to mental health crisis 2014-2016

So I know I was receiving benefit because I had enough national insurance - sickness benefits
Then esa 2015 or 16
Wrongly put in group that meant not look for work but capable of doing activities - then I was sanctioned as cd not comply etc with work coach
My daughter spoke to Job centre and they sent request through for mandatory reconsideration and I was then in support group

Since 2018 I had letters saying I am in receipt of income related esa plus sdp and support group premiums

- these were gateway to housing benefits free prescriptions and help with council tax

Not migrated yet and I have all contact with Dwp is via email from alternative formats

I needed proof of benefits was needed for hospital transport costs and this year and letter says I was awarded contribution based esa and income related - my yearly benefit figures update only showed me being paid income related this seems very odd as never any mention of contributions esa on awards or letters

Should I try get dwp to send me data or awards from 2015/16/17 to see what I as first awarded? How do I request this .

My council has me down income related esa with sdp and pip and obv dwp update them yearly on rates -

A friend has recently migrated and has had been told only income related went to uc and a figure that a paid to her as contribution related and council tax / housing take contribution based ESA element to be income and issue her with a 100.00 a month ctax bill - I’m terrified

Thanks

Hi Livonia

I'm afraid this is coming up for a lot of people at the point of migration, either because their previous ESA included some contribution-based ESA and they weren't aware or because contribution-based ESA entitlement is somehow discovered during the migration process.

Don't worry too much about the claimant commitment meeting. If you are in the support group then your claimant commitment should simply involve agreeing to report changes in your circumstances, the same as it did for your UC. You can ask for reasonable adjustments to be made, such as the interview to be over the phone (see page 26 here www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/?dlp=688287e638103).

The letters are fairly generic - you should not be asked to provide a fit note, look for work or prepare for work because you are in the support group.

The other thing you need to know is that NS-ESA will be paid separately from UC. NS-ESA is paid fortnightly then the monthly equivalent of it is deducted from your monthly UC payments.

Citizens Advice Help to Claim would be able to calculate exactly what you can expect in your individual circumstances - see page 46 of the managed migration guide above.
