What Exactly Causes a UC Migration to Fail and become NSESA & UC was created by TBA
I desperately need to know what causes an ESA migration to fail in this manner. Not only has my migration failed like this, but I suspect a friend's, SG- Drooler+Indentation, will fail as well.
I’ve told my friend nothing about what may happen. When I left them recently after a support flyby, the last thing they said as I walked away was, “I’ll be alright once the migration is over”. Then, a few nights back, they told me they intend to migrate the same day as my WCA, which is been carried out under the guise of agreeing my NSESA commitments. Then they are hoping to spend a few days with the family while the schools are off, which involves booking an expensive ticket. Yet they potentially face a phone call about arranging a WCA.
I am still getting hit by shrapnel from my friend due to the profound effects of their not being able to use a P60 for self-ID after I said they could.
Following the handbook, I’ve told them there is no WCA, just an easy form, passport, P60 and the job is a good one. If I tell them about the WCA, it will be horrendous, even should they not have to do one, but if they do OMG.
What I need to know is:
1) What exactly causes an ESA migration to fail and become an NSESA and UC migration?
2) How do you self-ID for UC migration using ‘UK passport’ and ‘Credit references or records. For example. Information about credit cards or phone contracts.’?
3) Any information on the WCA, that will be performed under the guise of agreeing to your commitments.
I’ve contacted the Citizens UC advice centre on this, but they couldn't help, as this is NSESA and not UC.
My WCA is soon.
What should I tell my friend?
Please help.
SG-Drooler + Very ill.

Hi TBA
1. Most people migrating to UC from ESA have been migrated to both New Style ESA and Universal Credit. It's just that no one knew that would happen, so it has been very upsetting. It isn't anything you have done wrong - it is the DWP process and many people now receive both.
2. In order to migrate to universal credit, you will need three documents. A lot of people find the online verification doesn't work and then find they have to have a home visit. A passport, a birth certificate, and a bill with an address, such as a council tax bill, a P60, a debit card etc. I can't tell you whether they will accept the phone contract. I haven't used the credit record check - so I don't know what they ask if you click that option.
3. I can't tell you exactly what they will ask at your WCA - but the possible questions can be found on page 145 : ESA and UC Claims for Physical, Mental Health and Learning Difficulties: a guide to the work capability assessment.
