Hello,

My Brother has been in the support group for over 10 years, he also has the added disability component, he is also on the highest level of pip.

He has not been assessed for around 10 years, his problem are mental and physical. He had a pip assessment around 6 years ago… and all this was taken into account.

He got the “you must convert to universal credit” and says when you do your ESA will end… so we did that,.

He now has a letter from the ESA “helping you prepare for work” f1 esa mandatory 05/20

He is in the support group with extra mobility, why is he getting this ?? They have obviously not looked at his records or anything, he also has another letter about a health and work conversation phone call, from our local Jobcentre., this has really rocked him, and he is now in a mess.

We understand there is transitional protection for 12 months, so I don’t understand. Have they made a mistake? Have they not realised what group he is in ?

Why has he got all this please .

Thank you so much

Hi MikeSimms

We can't tell you why he may have received this notice.

If your brother has been migrated from the ESA support group to Universal Credit, he is not expected to look for work. The only thing you can do is raise this with Universal Credit. Unfortunately, many people have received notices that they are not expecting in error - and they individually have to contact the DWP about it.

He has been asked to to a health and work conversation, looking around that seems normal for people? Some had it even in the support group, it’s via phone

Hi Mikesimms

All the people I personally know who have had that conversation it lasted all of 10 minutes (and they were all in the support group). The meeting turned into the caller explaining that they would not be expected to look for work and reminding them that if their health ever improves, to report it. And that was it. Hopefully, that will be your brother's experience.
