Migration from ESA to UC story so far was created by tillyboo
In March letters recieved for migration from ESA to UC. Told over the phone by the Help to Claim everything would be easy. It was anything but.
We are a mixed age couple & with the help of my local MP, Carers UK & my Council Benefits Officer. The migration finally completed & first payments due 9th August.
We had problems proving ID online, as had passports but the credit check part threw up addresses that "we had been associated with" neither of us had heard of. So an ID telephone call was done & we passed that, but the UC computor software said more ID was needed, so had to wait for a home ID visit from DWP. Very specific with info he wanted to see, we couldnt choose, it was 3 pieces each & thank christ we had them.
So all was ok, the same day a message from UC ID now all passed payment advised 5th Aug payment 9th Aug.
Then out the blue an ESA98 saying I was now on New Style ESA & would have to attend job centres etc got MP & all benefit officers involved again.
On Sunday 3rd August my first statement produced couldnt understand any of it. So I gave access to my Council Benefits Officer to check it all & she confirmed all was ok, she also sent over to council tax confirmation of statement, as I didnt know how to do it.
No idea whats happening with New Style ESA apart from being paid £281.10 every 2 wks which us converted to a monthly deduction off my ESA. I have no idea if a calls coming about claimant commitment for NSE & job centre visits. I have asked both UC & ESA & nobody knows.
I am in the support group with SDP which as all moved to transitional protection.
My advice would be, if you have vulnerable health conditions. Push for a DWP visit to do the migration from your home, I didnt. But wish I had. Also involve your MP & find any organisation who can help, we were lucky as we had a Carers UK & our local council benefit officer all 3 have helped us through this last 4/5 months of misery, stress & confusion. We could never have done thus migration alone.
Part of me still thinks there will be a call re the New Style ESA, but will cross that bridge if it happens.
Good luck to anyone starting their migration, I hope yours goes ok & smoothly, unlike ours, which was a complete nightmare.
