Reg ID for UC claim was created by j
Hi please can any one tell me what can be used as ID for when a UC claim is done on line I do have a passport but at the moment I have not found it in my house
Also I don’t have any credit cards just a bank card
Yet I can provide proof of address via housing benefit and council tax support letter
Also I have letters from the dwp
and I do have my original birth certificate
and my tenancy agreement from when I moved into my council house many years ago
Does any one know if any of my above listed ID is ok to use for ID for UC for on line or over the phone etc

Hi j
You can verify your identity by one or more of the following:
~ online identity verification
~. face-to-face appointments
~. documentary evidence
~. biographical interviews
www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-verify-your-i...for-universal-credit
Other ways to verify your identity
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) uses a combination of documentary evidence, interviewing and information on DWP records to verify someone’s identity. This may include attending:
~. face-to-face appointments
~. phone biographical interviews
If your appointment is face-to-face at a Jobcentre Plus, you’ll need to bring ID and proof of address.
If you’re invited to a face-to-face interview at a Jobcentre Plus, you’ll need to bring ID and documents with you.
You’ll need to bring an original of all of the following:
~. one photo ID
~. one proof of address
~. one further proof of identity
You may be asked questions to confirm your identity if your ID or documents are not accepted.

Hi j
I am not sure about the bus pass, if you click on the link I previously posted, it will take you to the Gov website which explains what is acceptable to prove your ID.

My Experience with Managed Migration to Universal Credit (UC)
When I went through managed migration myself, the process was straightforward. I completed everything online using my passport to verify my identity. After that, I answered some additional security questions (about credit, previous addresses, etc.), and my claim went through without issues.
To make things clear, I uploaded my Citizens Advice calculation to my UC journal. I had called the Help to Claim team a few weeks earlier, and they provided me with a breakdown of what I was receiving under legacy benefits and what I should expect under UC with transitional protection. I also noted in my journal that I should not be asked for a fit note or required to look for work, as my Support Group award carries over to UC under LCWRA.
Additionally, I requested fortnightly payments via my journal, which was arranged, and I also asked for my housing costs to be paid directly to my housing association. For this, I first had to call my housing association to set it up, then let UC know via my journal. Everything went through within a few days.
Helping my niece migrate was a different experience. I supported her in filling out the online form, but she couldn’t verify her identity online as she has no photo ID. Instead, she submitted her claim and was later asked, via her journal, to attend her local Jobcentre with the documents she did have. She brought her birth certificate, phone bill, debit card, P60U, DWP letters (showing her National Insurance number), and her mother’s council tax bill (she’s listed as a non-dependent). The appointment was quick—about 10 minutes—and overall painless.
However, her claim is still not fully processed. UC have said that the DWP hasn’t yet passed her details to the MGP1 team (who notify ESA that someone has migrated to UC and ensure ESA awards are carried over). She has explained in her journal that this needs to be sorted before her first UC payment date; otherwise, her initial payment could be missing her health elements and transitional protection. UC responded saying that any missing money would be backdated once the MGP1 team processed the claim, but she has stressed that her full award should be included in her first payment. She’s still waiting for a resolution.
In summary:
If you can complete ID verification online, the process is much smoother.
If you need to verify in person at the Jobcentre, it can slow things down and create delays in processing—sometimes with serious consequences for the first payment.
