PIP SHORT RENEWAL was created by Oali
This post isn't a question but rather something I noticed about the PIP review/renewal process. This is regarding my specific situation.
My PIP was reviewed recently, AR1, and I just received the decision. I was getting enhanced, both daily and mobility, and this will continue. I knew I would get the benefit, at the same rate, as my health has actually got a little worse.
What I found strange was the duration of the reward. It's from Nov 25 till Nov 28, and as reviews are mostly done a year prior to the end date, that means I'll be reviewed again in 27. As my health has pretty much deteriorated over the years, the constant reviewing in hopes that my health might improve is wishful thinking. This very short duration makes me think that the DWP is hoping that any upcoming changes to PIP, via the Timms review, might allow them to apply them to my case. In order to reduce my benefit and save themselves money.
I've read recently that they quietly reapplied the 4-point benefit rule to existing claimants too. It was all hush-hush so that there wouldn't be a huge backlash like last time. Honestly, I feel that the DWP is needlessly stressing me out, and probably others, in order to ensure they can save a few pounds here and there. Let me know if any of you have had a similar experience.

Hi Oali
I can understand your frustration. A couple of our members have reported asking the DWP just to look at the award length and have squeezed a further two years out of them. It might be something you want to consider. Although the DWP deny that there has ever been a policy to shorten the average award length - many people report being offered much shorter award lengths in the past few years.

Thanks for replying and giving that advice. If my reward could be extended even a little, it would save me having to go through all this process again in 2 years. Please could you provide any information about how I would go about this? How would I ask them? Writing or over the phone? Also do you have any suggestions about how I should word my request?
Thanks for any advice you can give.

Hi Oali
I would write - simply because if you ring you cannot guarantee that the call handler will accurately record what you say. Write to the person named on your decision letter and send it to that address. Simply put your name, national insurance and case number (if there is one) and say that you have received their decision letter and although you are happy with the award, you are disappointed in the length. You would be grateful if they could review the length of the award as your health has only got worse over the last few years. (If you are expecting it to deteriorate further then say so). Tell them that it is stressful to be sent a form possibly as soon as 12 months. Make sure that you put in a final sentence - that you are not asking for a Mandatory Reconsideration. Repeat for the second time that you are not challenging the enhanced award, you are only asking them to review the length of the award.
Don't worry about trying to write the perfect letter. You will be fine. There is no template for this sort of letter because the DWP hopes that people won't challenge the length, though plenty of people do.
