Housing Association Customer Assurance Panel was created by Dambus
Hello,
I have been asked to sit on Plus Dane Housing Association - Customer Assurance Panel. This involves 8 annual teams meetings for which I would be expected to read and understand a briefing pack. There are also 2 awaydays visiting sites in the estate of Plus Dane Housing Association.
I am recieving PIP high rate care and mobility, UC and new style ESA.
My question is - in the current climate of demonisation of those of us with disabilities would this voluntary unpaid role be considered evidence of ability to work? I would so much like to be able to "put something back' but fear The department of W&P reaction. Time was this would be encouraged and considered therapeutic. Sad how times have changed.
Thanks in advance for any wisdom and guidance.
Nick.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Dambus
The short answer to your question is No.
10 days a year would consider evidence of ability to work, what happens when you are too ill to attend one of the annual meetings?

Hey Gary,
Thanks for your response. I don't quite understand though. Just to clarify the 8 meetings are virtual, that I can do unless I cannot because of pain or other health issues. Being mostly virtual would make it an achievable aim I think.
The 2 in person meetings would be more problematic but the Housing Association would support and fund a carer and travel costs.
My worry is that the DWP will consider this as an ability to work. Don't get me wrong, I would love to work but I know my physical limitations don't realistically let me.
Although I would love to join the panel, having done all the heartache and stress of getting my benefits sorted I think it is just a potential problem like sitting on an unexploded bomb.
All advice welcome.
Thanks again
Nicholas

Hi Dambus
With all what has been going on in the press, I can fully understand your concern. I don't believe it should give you any reason to give you any concern.
We would advise you to discuss your concern with your local Welfare Rights Organisation, advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.
