PIP while away from care home was created by David Heathcote
We brought up our special needs granddaughter under a Residence Order, and obtained both daily living and mobility PIP awards for her. She currently lives in a care home situation so no longer receives the daily living component, although ongoing award paperwork retains her underlying entitlement to it (I remain her DWP appointee).
She will shortly be having a two week break with her birth mother. Am I correct in thinking that the DWP will pay her daily living component for the days she is away from the care home?

Hi davidheathcote

Have you tried phoning PIP to get the answer? I thought that you had to be away from the institution for at least 28 days.

Had hoped someone might be able to give a quick answer without having to waste one hour + of my life waiting for DWP to answer a phone call!

Hi David

According to turn2us, you can do for short breaks - even for a weekend. www.turn2us.org.uk/get-support/informati...-live-in-a-care-home
