UC Claim was created by rachel1
Hi
I currently receive contribution based esa £145.90 a week, and pip standard mobility and high care. Our rent is £765.
My husband has been unemployed for 18 months. During that time he received 6 months of new style jsa. We have now put in a claim for universal credit.
The result has come back as giving us only £34 a month on top of my esa. There is no mention of housing costs or council tax help. I can't believe that this is right. I know we won't get full help for housing but the one bedroom rate in our area is £136 a week.
Do you have any advice on how we should proceed? Thank you.

Hi rachel1
Firstly you could try using a Benefits calculator such as Entitledto.co.uk
Then I would phone Citizens Advice Help to Claim. They will assist you with your new Universal Credit claim and also they have their own Benefits calculators.
Here is further information:-
Call our Help to Claim phone number

We have now been to the CAB and they did a benefits check for us. It does show that we should get help for housing and also an element of UC linked to sickness.
However the Dwp say I have to have another WCA to qualify for the disability element of UC, despite me already being in the support group for ESA. This makes no sense to me and I feel like it's a trap to get me off ESA.
Do I need to have another WCA to qualify for the sickness element of UC if I am already in ESA support group?
Thank you

Hi rachel1
No, you don't. Your ESA Support Group status will be carried over to UC and is termed LCWRA ( limited capability for work and work related activity ).
I would complain about whoever gave you the wrong information.
