DWP lump sum payments was created by Sum
Hi B&W
I just had a call from DWP re the recent Tribunal decision to award Enh DL.
the call was to ask if we were happy for a lump sum payment. I agreed to this. After the call, i wondered if the alternative option ie spread the cost ..... would be better?
I'm thinking of the potential impact of a lump sum (~< 17K ) on UC/ ESA.
Can someone clarify and help my understanding and thing s to be aware of please.

Hi Sum
The lump sum is disregarded for 12 months as per the following UC reg:
18.—(1) A payment received within the past 12 months by way of arrears of, or compensation for late payment of—
(a)universal credit;
(b)a benefit abolished by section 33 of the Act; or
(c)a social security benefit which is not included as unearned income under regulation 66(1)(a) or (b).
(2) “Social security benefit” means a benefit under any enactment relating to social security in any part of the United Kingdom [F1and includes armed forces independence payment under the Armed Forces and Reserve Forces (Compensation Scheme) Order 2011].

Hi Sum
It is definitely best to inform UC yourself just in case there is a delay in communication and in the meantime your UC is put on hold.

Thanks David,
Why would UC be put on hold , given that the lump sum is disregarded for 12 months ?

Hi Sum
We are talking about a hypothetical communication issue between PIP and UC and UC IT systems which these days get indications of savings amounts from financial institutions.
