Income support query was created by Karen
Hi
Are you able to advise on income support?
My friend claims incapacity benefit and receives middle rate care DLA and low rate mobility. Working out her personal allowance I feel she should be entitled to top up of income support. She has some savings so have worked out the tariff income however the query is that she has her name on the deeds to her parents property (they still live in this property).
She owns a share of this but does not get income from this.
Is this share included as capital and would it affect her claim for income support?

As Moderators our area of expertise is in relation to disability living allowance, attendance allowance, the personal capability assessment used in connection with incapacity benefits, and the work capability assessment used in connection with employment and support allowance. So those are the only subjects on which we can provide reliable information. However, you need to bear in mind that boards like this can never provide advice to individual claimants about their specific circumstances, for that your friend needs to use an advice agency.

All we can offer is general information about how the system works.

To give accurate and reliable advice about a specific benefits problem, we'd need to know a great deal about income, savings, health, household arrangements and more. To give advice without all this information would be potentially misleading.

If your friend needs specific benefits advice, you can download our FREE, 12 page guide to getting help with benefits.

Thank you for the reply. I have contacted income support and they said the share of the property is taken into account for capital but then I spoke to a benefits advisor and they said this would not be classed as income. I did a ten week welfare rights course last year but it has not helped with this query.
Where would I find the free guide ?

I have a mate who has middle care rate and incapacity, and she gets disability premium on income support, think it works out as extra 50.00 per week!

They on purposely dont tell you about this! but as long as they get middle care rate they can claim this!

SO ring up for income support form and apply for it!
