Hi Carole,
all seemed to go well with the E.S.A home assessment but obviously I will not know until the A.T.O.S communication.
A few good points:-
a)There was no language barrier problems,
b)He agreed when I questioned the necessity of the assessment in view of the weight of medical evidence provided etc.
c) Caught me on a bad day/week.
d) Seemed sympathetic to My problems and
commented as to lack of flexibility in the back and swelling of left leg.
e) no laptop or computer.
Also three bad points:-
1) He seemed to be very young(possible ageism on my part)
2) I did not see what he was writing.
3) He pointed out the uncontrollable shaking in my legs while trying to undertake certain exercises was down to nerves considering I suffer from Lumbar Canal Stenosis I am aware that is the problem, contraction of the nerves so I am not convinced he was clued up on My condition.
Fingers crossed, everything crossed I will inform You all as to the decision when I know.
Best Wishes
Bill

Well done you Bill, big hurdle over, sounds more positive than other and hey everyone looks young once you get in your 50s. Nothing you can do now only wait for the decision so even though its difficult try not to worry. have a peaceful weekend

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies and I hope Bill gets a good result..... let us know!
Well, if an untidy house and tired person is what they want, they want to see me and the house today!!! haha!
I did as suggested and my GP did a letter saying with my Interstitial Cystitis (permanenet cystitis), need ofr WC and double incontinence and no wheelchair accessible centre near me, that a home visit was the most sensible option. Atos called me today and it is for 12th Nov...... I am dreading already.....
My husband said that as my hip is bad adn getting worse, I should do the interview while sat on my commode..... he said at least it will save me going to loo every 5-20 mins... depending on how bad I am and also save embarassment of me having an accident! haha!
Do you think I could have the interview while sat on a commode? Husbadn said he will throw a blanket over me!
I am very nervous as to what to expect from a home visit. My incontinence nurse this week said that I should apply for DLA. I have only applied for ESA at teh moment.
Love to all

Hi Tilly
I had my ESA home visit a couple of weeks ago, and it was actually ok. I had an ATOS medical for DLA earlier this year, and that was ok too. Two different doctors, so there are reasonable ones out there.
In case it might be helpful to have an idea of what happens in home visits, mine went like this. Once arrived and sat down, one did and one didn't check my ID and medicine. Both then asked me/my carer questions about my illness, what I can do and what help I have or need. I was asked about what help I need for both benefits although slightly differently.
The questions/talking may be tiring, but are not difficult to answer (unless you have cognitive or mental health difficulties, in which case have someone present to speak for you) because you know the answers - you live with it every day.
Some of what I said was written down, along with their own observations and opinions (you can get copies of the report). I was asked to do one physical test in each, and was not forced to do what I couldn't do.
My DLA medical lasted well over an hour, ESA was half an hour.
Not sure if you are joking about doing the interview on the commode, but if you really need to then I'd say do it - they need to know how it really is for you. However, they may ask if you do this for all visitors/whether you have visitors/can go out etc. Another idea might be to advise the doctor in advance that you may need him/her to leave the room speedily and at short notice, and where they can wait if it's not obvious, and have the commode next to where you are sitting.
Good luck.

PS I just got my result, and have been put in the Support Group.
