Two claims update was created by hassled mum
Hi all, here is an update of our "Two claims at once" thread. As you may have seen, I am making a claim for DLA for both my son and I, last weep DWP wrote syaing they wanted a report from the G.P regarding my son so we are still awaiting the desicion on that. I sent my claim in a week ago ( it was my second attempt!) and on Saturday I got the dreaded brown enevlope in the post, one of those moments when you really can't face opening it! Well it was great news, I have been awarded higher rate mobility!! :) and no need for a medical, I did put in my application that I already had a Blue badge on a discretinary application and that I had already attended an ATOS medical and was in the WRAG,but the biggest help of all was using the claim assitance pack that I had down loaded from your site. So now we wait with baited breath on my sons claim who as you may have read on the previous thread is only 16 and a very poorly young man with many care needs and too ill to attend school. If his claim is refused I will be seeking your advice and assitance regarding appeals but hopefully it won't come to that.
It's wonderful to have good news especially as we were in hospital over night on Friday with a very poorly son.
Thankyou everyone for your support, sometimes good things really can happen :cheer:

Its good to hear your news. I am a RGN and found all the paperwork and constant phone calls unbelievable whilst trying to combat my own medical problems, I hope that your poorly son also gets a positive result soon.

:cheer: yet again really good news, sons brown envelope arrived yesterday. as you know I was worried about the two claims at once, well he has been awarded low rate care and low rate mobility. I did not expect anything for mobility but it was to do with his supervision outside so that was good. I had hoped for middle rate care especially as I am literally his full time carer but as dwp feel that he is not a substantial danger to himslef at night even though I am up until 3am most nights with him then that will have to do. I am not going to risk appealing the care rate because as my son say's low rate is better than no rate!!! oh the wisdom of the young.
So ultimately a possitive outcome.
I was wondering if anyone could tell/advise me about carers allowance as son has low rate care would I still be able to apply or does it have to be middle/high rate to get carers allowance. I get contributions based ESA wrag and high rate mobility, would these be affected by an application too, ei: would they deduct from my esa and dla mobility.I would also like to know ,do I notify childtax credit people about sons award?
Many thanks for the wonderful help provided on form filling especially as both of us had enough evidence with no need for a medical for either of us.
I know a lot of people highly praise "benefits and work" on the disability forum that I am a member of, so fantastic job all round
thankyou in advance for advice on carers issues

Wel done for getting the claim pushed through.

I am afraid you son would need to be on Middle or Higher Rate Care, for you to be able to claim Carer's Allowance for him.

I don't believe that CA would affect your ESA(CB) or DLA rates, but if your son was ever awarded MRC or HRC you should check with a benefits advisor to confirm this.

well done
middle or higher rate care would have been needed but I dont think you would have got carers as you have ESA and you cant have both
