recording a medical or having it recorded was created by vhawk1951
I have become a little confused by the various things that I read on benefits and work about recording medicals, or having my medical recorded; what is the current position? I don't know any sound engineers and more importantly, I I have no idea, not having received the letter yet, where the said medical is likely to be held or how on earth I would get there. For practical purposes, I cannot travel anywhere unless somebody takes me the car or they provide a taxi for me. Another thing that worries me is what happens if the letter gets lost in the post, so I don't receive it; do they send it by recorded delivery? Or do they just phone you up? this weighting business is like waiting for the other shoe to drop and is very disturbing and depressing.

I don't know about recording some mobile phones may have a recording facility don't know if it is legal to record it. I have heard from a reliable source always take a witness with you. Feel the same way it is so upsetting all of this.

You can request that ATOS record the medical, however, we know of only one case where this has happened. You can record the medical yourself providing you meet ATOS's requirements and obtain the permission of the HCP in advance, we know of only two cases where this has been allowed.
Alternatively, you can record the medical without permission. This must be done covertly and if you are found out the medical will be stopped. There also may be issues regarding what you can do with the recording afterwards.
Having someone with you in the medical is worth doing whether it s is record or not as they can take notes without restriction.

vhawk1951,
DWP are running a pilot scheme at the moment, only with 500 medicals though.
I think this is because of Harringtons reveiw.
Further, if you can't attend one of their medical centres, make sure you inform them, with your reasons, and request a Home Assessment.
It would be far easier to record covertly at home, as Gordon has said though don't let them know you are recording whether at home or not as the will stop the medical.
You can say you recorded it for your own reference purposes. It is not illegal.

I don't know anybody who could come with me because I live entirely alone, but the Word of a Member of the Bar should be good enough for anyone. Surely? As it happens, I'm also ex officio a commissioner for oaths.
when I was notified of this your reply. There was no link, taking me directly to it; is that usual?

i know it is not illegal since i am a barrister.if it was illegal answering machines would be unlawful.it is probably courteous and polite to state clearly that one intends to make audio notes.
i don't know what the attitude of the DWP is; in my legal opinion it would be unlawful to prevent someone from taking audio notes unless some rule expressly for bids it. the general rue in law is if it's not expressly forbidden BY LAW it is allowed.
