ESA medical query was created by sheleo
I'm just getting prepared for my medical next week and have noticed in the leaflet 'About Your Medical Assessment' WCA ALIC 10/10 it says that you need to bring with you 'tablets or other current medication, such as inhalers'.

Would a pill organiser containing what you take each day + a current prescription be enough or do you have to take all boxed drugs with you? I'd need a small suitcase!

Thank you.

Also just wanted to say this: my problems are all physical - how anyone with a mental health condition copes with this stress is beyond me and my heart goes out to them. This process is bordering on the inhuman.

Hi, personaly I would take it all with you and put it all on their desk and sit back and relax while they make a note of it all.

It will certainly make more of an impact!

Don't expect them to note it correctly, you will need to check it thoroughly when you receive your copy of the medical.

Best wishes,
Rachel :)

Hi Sheleo

You only really need to take the names of the prescriptions and dosages. You could write a list of them and take it with you to the face-to-face assessment.

Good luck

I've checked the WCA Handbook and I can't see anything that specifically requires you to take the actual boxes, infact, it could be argued that certain pain killing drugs should not be taken out of the house, because of the risk of theft.

Anyway, providing your prescripion forms are up to date, have a full definition of the drug and its dosage, and how often they should be taken this should be OK.

When my husband had his assessment he took his medication but the assessor did not want to see it, he just asked what was taken and did not check.

If I can give you some advice, that would be,

1 - take a witness into the assessment.

2 - Do not force yourself to do any of the physical actions the assessor asks, if it will hurt you and cause an aggrevation of your symptoms and if you do refuse, do not let them bully into trying to do something that will hurt you.

3 - Time the length of the assessment

4 - Do not make a special effort in your appearance as this can count against you if you look clean and tidy and if you need to stand up or move around because of any pain, then do so, dont try to hide anything from the assessor as regardless of how you are normally, they will only rule on what they see there and then.

5 - If your condition is fluctuating, dont let the assessor try to convince you that they do not have the facility to put that in as an answer.
They can, it will just take them a lot longer for each question in their report, as they will not be able to use generic pre-made answers.
THis happened to my husband and cost him dearly

hope it helps.

Thank you all so much for replying. I think I'll leave boxes, including morphine with friend in the waiting room and just take prescription and pill organiser in with me. If boxes are needed then he/she will have to wait til I stagger out and get them. I'll let you know how it goes after next Tuesday!
