I recieve disability living allowance for my son who is autistic. He has started attending a special since January last year when he refused to attend his mainstream school. I had to pay fees until recently when we won a court case which makes the council pay his fees and transport costs. He has been boarding for the last couple of terms from Monday to Friday. I'm not sure what I need to tell the DLA and how this will effect his allowance. He has also just turned 16 so they have sent me a form about him recieving his allowance personally which he is not able to manage at present. Some informationa and advice please?

there are two things you need to do
get advise from an expert about what needs to be done regads telling dla he is not at home all week, and also you need to ask the dla unit to arrange a person to come out and see both you and your son to see if you can be made his rep for benefits
once you tell blackpool he cant manage his dla on his own they contact the local dwp office and someone comes out to see you both and if they ffeel its right they will make the decsion you can be his rep
beaware even if he can manage he has to be there for the first meeting
the rep from the dwp will be doing plenty of visits at this time of year and you wont be the only call of the day
