Hi clio,

A friend of mine, with mental health problems has just been placed in the support group, from WRAG after another face to face assessment.

The friend had support from her CPN, and her daughter.

Do you have a CPN to support you, if not have you thought of trying to gain such support.

Clio,

Could you gain any support, or reports from your Phycologist, although I suppose there would be a fee involved.

Have you checked the exceptional circustances criteria in the guides here, re entry in to the support group (LCWRA).

These cover mental and physical health condition, and include risk to yourself or others, or harm through worsening your condition, if not found (LCWRA) to qualify for support group.

cheers

As well as the LCWRA exceptional circumstances (substantial harm) criteria - is the fact that a mental illness is poorly controlled/uncontrolled another criteria for making it into the support group or have i misread the guidelines?

Also regarding seeking CPN support, what are the main differences in the roles of a CPN (community psychiatric nurse) and a mental health social worker? Who is likely to offer the most effective support/be most knowledgeable/easy to access regarding ESA/IB transfer issues and help with other benefits such as DLA and housing benefit?

Many thanks

Definately you should appeal if your anxiety levels are so high that you have panic attacks at home speaking to your own family. The descriptor that applies does say that social contact must be 'always' precluded because of it, but I am sure that interpretation does not mean all day with anyone in any situation, or for example the claimant with a CPN would lose on the basis they see their professional helper (CPN) 'Social contacvt' should be seen more globally It means in the wider world, ( suspect they not mean, your wife/husband/ GP/CPN etc etc ) Appeal !
As for getting a CPN, its hard to get allocated one, and harder to get one for a prolonged period, but not impossible.
