assessment phase esa and pension was created by lcdemon
I have just been put into the support group (with the help of this site...thanks!)and am in receipt of contribution based ESA.
As I have a small pension I know about the deductions, however they have made deductions from the assessment phase money, is this correct?...I had assumed it would only be from when I was allocated to a group.

Thanks

Congratulations for being placed in the Support Group.

With regard to your payments, I'm afraid if there are decductions to be made from your ESA, they are made whether you are receiving the Assessment or the full rates.

Im confussed. I thought if you were put into the Support group there would be no deductions from any ill health pension that anyone was receiving, even if it was in access of the £85 per week amount? Please correct me if im wrong as my son is in receipt of an ill health pension from his previous employers and we are hoping that due to his various health issues he may be put into the support group when he eventually transfers to ESA. He currently receives inacpcity benifit pre 1995 which is not taxed and also higher rate DLA for mobility and Care.
Clarification would be appreciated.

Some people, currently receiving IB have their pension income disregarded, where this is the case, this will continue when they are successfully transferred to ESA as part of the Transitional Protectiom.

However, if the pension is not currently disregarded then it will not be disregarded under ESA, as there are no excpetions, whether you are placed in the Support Group or not, other than the above circumstances.

In addition, you shoud be aware that that the Transitional Protection does not cover any exception to tax that your son may have under IB, so their ESA(CB) (not ESA(IR)), will be liable to tax after transfer.

Hello Gordon,
Thank you again for such a quic responce to my question. My sons pension is currently disregarded.
One more question if i may. Am i right in thinking that after any transistional period is up, presuming he is placed in the support group and hopefully with the help of this site he will stand a much better chance than he would otherwise have done, that his pension will still be disregarded or will it be subject to deductions?
