new DLA claim was created by mumsgirl
I've just sent in a claim for DLA (my first time). I was wondering if anyone could tell me what 'normally' happens next? Is the waiting time similar to ESA (event though it's variable!), will I have to go for a medical and will they contact my GP for evidence (even though she wrote some on my form)? thanks guys

Hi,
I am by no means expert, as I have only had my first award a couple of months. My claim took a couple of months, i guess this is normal, and they did contact my gp. I would imagine it would depend on the amount on info your gp gave on your form as to wether they feel the need to contact your gp again.
Not claimed ESA so cant compare the two sorry. But I think you should get a letter telling you what they are up too. I did. If it's been a while and you have not had any contact it can't hurt to phone and just ask the status of your claim. Be warned that they do ask you to prove who you are when you do this though.
Hope that helps.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

I am applying for DLA for the first time. My form was sent back nearly 8 weeks ago and I have had 3 letters from the DWP in that time. The first one said that my claim would take longer because they were contacting my consultant. The second one said that my claim would take longer because they were contacting my GP. The third said that they still haven't made a decision.
I'm not sure whether this is good, bad or indifferent!

After 8 weeks I have today heard th result of my DLA application - I have been awarded HRM and MRC for 2 years!
I am totally gobsmacked as I have heard so many horror stories. Many thanks to this site (and my CAB adviser) for all the help with filling out the application forms.
Typically, I have just taxed my car for 1 year (but I know that I can sort that out)!
