Hi s46,
In short No.
The only way to gain the necessary NI Contributions would be through paid employment.

Would it be possible for a person who has used up the 12month time limited ESA to buy NI Contributions to enable them to claim ESA again.
I seem to recall having a letter a few years ago telling me I had a shortfall in NI contributions and that I could top them up myself. As it happens It turned out to be a mistake at their end.

Hi bro58,
I understand you can only reclaim ESA(CR)after gaining employment, but any ideas as to how long you have to work to build up enough NI contributions to reclaim ????
Radhika.

It doesn't matter how many years worth of NI contributions one has paid if they were not in the qualifying period (which is, I think, one full year before this tax year, or something like that).
