Hello everyone, I have a few questions and some confusion to clarify.
I do apologise if this was asked before, but I couldn’t find it
We’ve returned my mother’s DLA renewal form and received a confirmation of recipient letter from DWP which says:
-“…If we don’t have enough info- “We may arrange for someone from your local social security office to come and see you
We have “70 questions” we are likely to be asked by doctor during the medical, but what about this “someone from your local social security office”? I’ve searched the forum and never came across “someone from your local social security office will visit”- my question is- what would person from local social security office do, will they do the medical? Have someone had the experience with this situation?

Also, do we have to let the doctor/ local social security office to go around the house, if yes what do we need to show them and can we refuse the home “search”?

And could some clever head explain to me what will happen to my mother in terms of transfer, please? Mom was receiving a DLA and IS, where/if the DWP will likely to transfer her? I am sorry for being so thick, but I really don’ understand how it works who gets transferred and where??

Does anyone have any idea- how long does the waiting time for making decision on renewal take?
Your help is very much appreciated.

Are you in Northern Ireland?

If so them it is the Department for Social Development that manage DLA claims, and it is their staff who carry out the medicals, see

www.nidirect.gov.uk/disability-living-al...-medical-examination

With regard a "transfer". Is you mother receiving Income Support due to Incapacity?

If so, then she will be transferred to Income Related ESA at some time in the near future.

At some future date, she may also be transferred from DLA to PIP, but this process has not been started yet.

I'm obviously not doing very well today 0 for 2 :(

I am sure that this is just a standard letter, the normal process for a renewal, would be for a doctor to come and see your mother, if required, I can't see any reasons, at this time, why it would be someone else.

I think you'll have to wait until contacted, if you actually are, to find out who they might be sending, if not a doctor.

As to the transfer, if your mother is only receiving DLA, then the only transfer, which is very unlikely to be before 2014, would be to PIP. There is a PIP FAQ in the Spotlight area at the top of the forum.

Thanks again Gordon, you're doing just perfect 10 out of 10!
Can you also explain this, please, do we have to let the doctor/ local social security office to go around the house, if yes what do we need to show them and can we refuse the home “search”?

Hi k,

No one has the right to "search" your home unless they have a search warrant.

Sometimes, DLA "Doctors" will ask to go to the bathroom etc, to have a nosey round.

It is entirely upto you, whether you let the "Doctor" have a look round.

Sometimes it can be advantageous, if there are any adaptations or aids that are evident due to the needs/disabilities of the claimant.
