Thanks again Gordon, you're doing just perfect 10 out of 10!
Can you also explain this, please, do we have to let the doctor/ local social security office to go around the house, if yes what do we need to show them and can we refuse the home “search”?

As far as I am aware the doctor has no legal authority to "search" your home, however, and this is the catch-22, if you don't allow them access to other areas, then they may make assumptions, or conversely, be unable to confirm adaptions that you have made in the house.

If you do allow them then there is no reason for them to look in every room, nor is there reason for them to look inside drawers and cupboards. Typically the areas they may ask to look at are your toilet and perhaps your bedroom, what they are primarily interested in are any adpations or changes that you have had to make in order to cope with your condition(s).

Thanks Bro58,
not sure what to do then, we are renting and our landlord doesn't want any adaptions and especially in bathroom :(
It doesn't look good does it? Can i tell the doctor(if they come) that landlord is against the adaptions, how will no adaptions affect mother's case?

Hi k,

In that case, it may be prudent to mention what type of adaptations your mother would find helpful, and tell the "Doctor" that the landlord will not allow any adaptations.
If you have anything in writing from the landlord to verify this, you could give a copy to the "Doctor".

This way, it may prevent the "Doctor" from drawing the conclusion that adaptations are not needed, you could even put something in writing to this effect, and hand a copy to the "Doctor".

It may be advisable also, for you to take notes as a record of the proceedings, you are allowed to do this.

Thanks to both of you!
Bro58, if i can get some letter from the landlord, would they want to contact our landlord, as i don't really want them to do this? Any idea on a template, i mean what our landlord have to say- like- i disallow any adaptations?
thanks again

Hi k,

If you are able to obtain something in writing from the landlord, stating that he would not allow adaptations that would help with your mother's care needs, etc, then this can only help.

You could then show the original to the "Doctor", and give him a copy.

Whether your landlord would be willing to put it in writing is a different matter. You could request that the DWP do not contact the landlord, whether they would comply with this request is not really within my remit.
